Infrastructure

National Civil Co has expertise across the infrastructure industry, which is backed by the extensive experience within our delivery team. Our team can service not only bulk and detailed earthworks, but a large degree of utility and stormwater drainage installations, through to pavement construction and hard landscaping works. Earthworks and Detailed Excavation

Whether it is bulk earthworks or tight access detailed excavations, National Civil Co is internally geared to be able to service all facets. We utilise the latest technology to increase production from machines, allowing accurate tracking of material movement, compaction and tolerances. For the Level 2 controlled fill works completed for Ark Industrial, National Civil Co was able to track the movements and placement of approximately 21,000m³ of material in real time, allowing the trajectory of the future works to be made with decisive decision making using the latest volumes reports available.

Car Parks / Roadworks

An integral part of civil construction and one that brings some of the most delicate interfaces in public disruption and change to public and urban spaces. Car parks and roadworks combine the gamut of skills and experience we offer our clients, from inception and feasibility through to delivery. For East Pakenham Car Park Works, National Civil Co was contracted to complete the construction of the car park and associated access road, including all associated earthworks, pavement works, stormwater drainage works, concrete works and asphalt works, as well as the associated street furniture.

Stormwater Drainage Works

National Civil Co recognises what happens underground is fundamental to the integrity and long-term usage of what’s above ground and ‘downstream’ from the site. Our detailed and thoughtful construction of drainage infrastructure, including culverts, drains and underground pipes, ensures future feasibility as well as being integral to managing downstream environmental implications. For Koo Wee Rup Drainage Works, National Civil Co delivered 27km of stormwater drainage including reinforced concrete pipe, reinforced concrete culverts, pre-cast stormwater drainage pits, subsurface drainage and associated batter outlet works.

Pavement Works

Pavement is a very broad and complex aspect of civil engineering with many dynamic elements involved. National civil Co utilises in-house machine control and monitoring technology to assist with reducing tolerances – reducing overuse of material while also allowing for live conformance reporting with next to no interaction with machinery on the ground. National Civil Co prides itself on our exposure and experience across the range of pavement types – from standard deep lift asphalt pavement, heavy-, medium- and light-duty pavements, through to detailed spray seal – all with a consistent emphasis on rideability.

Complex pavements that involve subgrade rectification and stabilisation works have also been completed by the National Civil Co team and we partner with our industry network to achieve the optimal outcome.

Hard Landscaping Works

National Civil Co works on both natural and artificial landscaping works. This is where we take the civil construction site and return it to an appealing public urban open space, inclusive of landscaped shared user paths, retaining walls, bike paths and sports facilities. For East Pakenham Car Park Works, National Civil Co’s landscaping works included concrete and asphalt shared user path works, as well as associated street furniture, where we also identified and reused as much of the construction material as possible into the finished and completed products on site.

Rail

In the field of construction, the rail industry presents a unique and specialised domain, and National Civil Co is as a key player with a wealth of experience across the range of rail networks in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Our extensive background in the rail sector has paved the way for a deep understanding of its intricacies and specific requirements.

Operating across various networks including ARTC, MTM and V/line, National Civil Co remains attuned to the distinct requirements of each network authority. This encompasses safe working methods, equipment mandates, compliance protocols and equipment requirements. Our involvement across these networks allows National Civil Co team members to hold the latest qualifications and network inductions, and a profound awareness of the latest specifications and design prerequisites encompassing utilities, earthworks, formation and the different gauges. Our engineering team maintains a vigilant eye on these developments, staying attuned to evolving rail industry standards and specifications.

National Civil Co boasts exceptional skills and experience in delivering rail projects. A defining characteristic of rail projects is the necessity for substantial out-of-hours work to align with rail network schedules. We're well-equipped for these demands, boasting the requisite resources and experience to execute such projects and occupational works schedules seamlessly.

Track Formation

over the years, National Civil Co has completed numerous works and projects encompassing track formation. National Civil Co has worked in many different situations and complexities of the rail network, from navigating overhead structures and accommodating live running trains, to managing limited one-way access and handling contaminated materials. Works have ranged from single to dual track formation to accommodate for crossovers, turnouts and station pit renewals. National Civil Co looks to adopt the most appropriate approach and methodology to the project in hand, to minimise material being removed from site or to achieve the desired subgrade compaction, creating longevity to the network. For the Inverleigh Derailment and Rehabilitation Project, National Civil Co was called upon to swiftly and effectively execute the construction of new track formation, aligning the network and facilitating the crucial 4.5-degree slew. This project typifies our commitment to excellence and readiness to address critical rail infrastructure needs.

Drainage Works

As with road infrastructure, railways require drainage systems to collect, move and discharge water to ensure the integrity of the track formation and railway are maintained. National Civil Co are experts in planning and delivering drainage works from main outfalls, ULX crossings, detention and culvert systems, to standard track drainage systems. For example, National Civil Co often undertakes these works on new project builds, project upgrades, under occupations or in the event of an emergency and general reinstatement works.

Combined Services Route (CSR) works

National Civil Co delivers CSR packages for overall scheduled occupation works, offline upgrade works, new signalling works or the location and upgrade to essential underground rail services. For Ballarat Station, installing new local and ULX CSR runs were installed to facilitate new and more innovative station running. At the South Dynon Train Maintenance Facility, which is part of $322 million upgrade to house the new VLocity trains, National Civil Co was part of the project team that delivered the earthworks, track formation, stormwater drainage and CSR packages of the overall scheduled occupation works.

Bridge / Culvert Works

An integral part of rail projects, National Civil Co leverage off our experience in the rail sector as well as in the infrastructure sector generally to deliver bridge and culvert works for our clients. These projects are not a simple remove and replace, as the project specific requirements and expectations from all stakeholders demands us to lean on our stringent safety, quality, and environmental control measures, including effectively managing native flora and fauna, and the site management of contaminated materials within the rail corridor. For Korongvale Culvert / Ararat Culvert Works, National Civil Co completed several culvert and bridge replacements on the Victoria rail network on the Metro, ARTC and V/line rail networks.

Industrial

While National Civil Co are adept at servicing sizable infrastructure ventures, our capabilities extend even further to encompass targeted industrial earthworks, particularly in the domain of cut-to-fill operations. This includes operations utilising existing on-site material to convert the land into an ideal canvas for future warehouses or logistics facilities. Works include the additional scope of light-, medium- and heavy-duty pavements and subsequent stormwater drainage construction that then subsequently make the land usable. This work includes:

Earthworks – Cut-to-Fill

This work unlocks the potential of land, laying the groundwork for diverse developments, from roads and infrastructure to industrial sites and expansive logistics centres. National Civil Co's experience and knowledge in delivering cut-to-fill ensures we utilise the latest technology and development to minimise the amount of plant, equipment and labour hours on-site, and the most efficient movement of construction material across the site. Through using cut-to-fill operations, we optimise the financial and environmental benefits to our clients and projects. For Ark Industrial – Level 2 Controlled Fill Works, National Civil Co mobilised heavy earth moving equipment for the removal of vegetation and topsoil and the subsequent placement of structural fill, while tracking daily movements and material placement to ensure both National Civil Co’s and our client’s expectations were achieved.

Level 1 Fill Works

Level 1 fill works are an essential requirement for typical developments and pavement works, including commercial and residential building sites. At National Civil Co, we embrace the significance of these operations, bringing our expertise to the forefront. Guided on site by a Site Geotechnical Engineer, National Civil Co has executed numerous cut-to-fill projects across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. Our commitment to quality is unwavering; each project is meticulously carried out under stringent quality assurance protocols, and we supply our clients with a comprehensive report detailing all vital test results and sample locations, underscoring transparency and accountability. For Ark Industrial – Level 2 Controlled Fill Works, compaction control tests were carried out at regular intervals throughout the placement of fill in accordance with the minimum test frequency recommendations included in Guidelines on Earthworks for commercial and residential developments.

Heavy-Duty and Light-Duty Pavements

Pavements and ‘cut and replace’ underpin National Civil Co’s core operations and history. Cut and replace and the subsequent pavement works are completed daily in the company’s operations and projects and are constructed using the latest technology. The implementation of the latest machine control technology allows exceptional accuracy on position and elevation for all plant and equipment, minimising the risk and costs associated with overuse and seamlessly connecting temporary/preliminary works with permanent structures, ultimately delivering project success while reducing expenditure on temporary solutions.
